2022 Projects

Community Meeting Space
The Deviled Eggery offers a donation based private meeting space for community groups whose purposes overlap with our themes. With room for meetings of up to 30 people, our 1000 square foot “cafe” with bay windows and wood-beamed ceilings creates the perfect environment for discussions.

Food Security Garden Network
The Deviled Eggery is growing food for the community! With our volunteers both onsite and at satellite locations, we are creating a network of home gardens that plant specifically with the intention of growing too much produce for private consumption, so that food may be donated to our partner food distribution nonprofit, Una Vida. We will also work with local vendors and gardeners to procure supplies, funds, and support for families starting their first gardens. Stay tuned and watch the garden (network) grow.

Rainwater Catchment System
Given the drought in CA and our hopes to grow food at the Deviled Eggery, we are making sustainable irrigation a top priority. Starting with building our own rainwater catchment system, we will then teach community members how to build their own water conservation system. Participants will leave with know how to immediately install a rainwater catchment system, and materials will be available onsite for a discounted price.

Greywater
Continuing with our commitment to sustainable agriculture, the property that houses the Deviled Eggery will convert to a greywater system that repurposes all laundry, bath, and shower water to irrigate its fruit trees and Peace Garden. Once the system is in place, we will offer workshops with a local plumbing company so community members can learn how to do their own home conversions.

Deviled Eggery Scything Club
Led by expert scyther Gabe Brown, scything is a terrific method to care for your land without noisy and destructive mowers and trimmers. It is great core exercise too! Join us.

Grow Soil
Local food growers will meet for a workshop hosted by local rancher, ecologist, and holistic management instructor Richard King. Participants will learn about restoring the healthy state of soil via permaculture and sustainable agriculture practices, and will leave with hands-on materials to put their learnings to use right away.

“Decades” Gallery Opening December 3 from 10AM-3PM
Petaluma artists born in 10 different decades will display and sell their Petaluma-based art at the Deviled Eggery Grand Opening.

Peace Garden
The Deviled Eggery works to acknowledge the struggles of all people, and therefore planted flowers representing people from warring countries around the world. The garden will continue to grow as our gray water system is installed, and as we learn more about the plants that represent different cultures celebrated close by and abroad. Community members will be invited to use the space for meditation, education, and reflections. Costs include irrigation, garden art including signs about the plants and their meanings, and additional infrastructure through the garden (fence, path, lighting).

(dis)Parity Workshop
Why is mental health treated as secondary in importance to other health concerns? Find out what mental health parity is all about, what the law says, and how you can advocate for yourself and others to receive proper mental health care. Community members attending this workshop will leave with knowledge of the issues around mental health parity, and strategies to better access mental health care for themselves and others.

Book Drive for Nurse Family Partnership
The Nurse Family Partnership serves high risk mom’s across Sonoma County by offering home visits to support babies and their moms. One of the gifts this program offers the community is teaching these mothers how to read to their children, increasing literacy and strengthening the mother/child bond. We are collecting cloth and cardboard books for the Nurse Family Partnership’s youngest members, babies from birth to 2 years old.

Una Vida Holiday Fundraiser December 3 from 10-3PM
One of our favorite local nonprofits is Una Vida, and for the past several years we have been making and selling art to support their massive food distribution efforts. Not only do they serve hundreds of Petaluma Families struggling with food insecurity, they also utilize student volunteers from local public schools, as well as volunteers across generations and cultures to run their programs. The only difference this year is that we will be able to invite more artists to join our efforts in using their art to raise money for this awesome cause.
