A Midsummer Pause

We’ve been moving nonstop this summer, and now seems like a moment to pause and update on our progress. In July, we were jam packed with work and play. After stepping in the 150th gopher hole, we knew we had to make a proper outdoor gathering space. With help from local landscaper Marteens and his team, we built out a lovely patio and hammock chairs right under the big sycamore trees - perfect for events on hot summer days.

We finished our roof replacement and are halfway through our solar installation thanks to our friends at Amy’s Solar - we are all electric and soon will be selling electricity back to PG&E! This got us excited to start planning our rainwater catchment and greywater systems with the help of terrific webinars from Daily Acts. On the garden front - our Food Security Garden Network volunteers donated their extra produce to Una Vida. With apples grown and donated by Norma (of the original Eggery family!), we produced hand crafted apple juice using an apple press from Daniel of Jupiter Foods.

This month, tons of animals came to visit - hawks, crows, fox, turkeys and turkey vultures, skinks and skunks, and even our local badger! Our Deviled Eggery mascot Nico the Goat dropped by with his keeper and Deviled Eggery Advisor Saill. We had tons of fun hosting a local mom’s graduation party, a running club sign painting event, and playing with extremely large knives while scything nearby properties to help mitigate fire danger. We also hosted our first “stop by for chai”, an informal gathering of anyone who passes by and wants to sit down for tea. July was busy, but summer’s not done yet.
